FEATURE: A Room Filled w/Genuine Fans (concert review)
The following is a review of Maxwell’s private concert presented by Power 105.1 sponsored by iHeart Radio July 08, 2009 at the P.C. Richard & Son Theater in New York City. Enjoy!
The Latest Maxwell News/LMN contest winner “Michelle Rugema” from Win Tickets to See MAXWELL (tonight) NYC (July 08, 2009) lets us in on her experience.
Maxwell and his entire band put on a phenomenal show at the P.C Richard & Son Theatre. It blew me off my feet.
First off, I have to thank LMN for giving me the opportunity to be able to see this unbelievably talented man live in concert. God truly works in mysterious ways, because the day before I found out about the contest on LMN, my friend and I were supposed to buy our tickets to see Maxwell in NJ on the 24th of July. All the tickets were all sold out. We were trying to figure out where to go next in order to catch him in concert, and we were actually thinking of flying to Jacksonville, FL to catch his August concert, since that was the only time we would be able to. So, winning the tickets was a timely blessing.
Growing up overseas, I never thought I would catch Maxwell in concert and I am so thankful I have had the chance to do so. It really was a dream come true.
The crowd at the show was great; it was obvious that it was a room filled with genuine fans. The atmosphere was radiant, the DJ was great, and the musical journey back to the good ol’ days was priceless. This was prior to Maxwell taking the stage. When he finally did though, it was impeccable.
In the beginning, I was speechless and could not even sing-a-long because I could not concentrate on singing and watching him perform, at the same time! It was insane. After a minute though, it was as if it was just him and I in the room. I let the moment get the best of me. He performed his classics, and my all-time favourites, Get to know ya, Sumthin’ Sumthin, This Woman’s Work, and Fortunate. He interacted with his audience in a way no performer I have ever seen has. His voice pierced my heart and shook my soul. He exuded precision, class, style, and elegance throughout his performance while still managing to let his sense of humor naturally flow. His band was exceptionally flawless, his saxophonist and guitarist especially.
He has brought back the life to music, to love, and redefined the MAN. It is not only Maxwell’s music that rocks my socks off – it is the dignity, the respect, the style, the class, the humility, the smoothness, the sexiness and the realness that he embodies. He is the true representation of a real man. He holds qualities that seem to be unfamiliar to many today.
On behalf of all his Rwandan fans, we are ecstatic that he is back to revive music and to return its authenticity. We love him madly, truly, and deeply.
Thank you LMN for all you are doing for Maxwell and his fans!

Wow! What a phenomenal review. I had the same out of body experience during his performance. Everything you said about his class, elegance, style, integrity…all of that is impeccable and his band is timeless. I couldn’t concentrate on both the singing and his performance…he is so beautiful…I was in a trance…I didnt want him to leave the stage. And I saw him in a mega dome…how lucky to experience an intimate setting.
