I saw Maxwell In concert last night. WOW, time has seasoned him with maturity and grace. He moved across the stage as if time had never touched him, as agile as his youthful afro bearing predecessor. He started with “Get to know Ya”. Getting the crowd excited for the songs yet to come. The concert was peppered with pauses of Maxwell expressing gratitude for his #1 selling album and thanked the crowd for “Making his life a dream come true”. The house was packed but it felt like an intimate setting with Maxwell front and center in an all black suit and yes his quirky fashion statement..those white shoes. Maxwell added new songs to the set list including “Bad Habits” and “Cold” which he introduced as a song for what not to do. Stating that he is “A man too” and has his “Woof woof too”. Other songs performed were “Lifetime” which felt like a church sing along with Maxwell professing the need to “work it all out this life time”. The audience showed much love rising to their feet for “Pretty Wings”. Maxwell knows the balance between love and lust moving from an updated version of “Every Wanting to want you to want” where he addressed only the single ladies. Asking “Who wants to lay on top tonight”. The crowd erupted with screams of the more than willing ladies. The crowd could barely catch their breath as he caressed from one heartbeat racing inducing track to next.”Simply beautiful” was just that as Maxwell rose to the heights of the raptors with his enchanting falsetto. Maxwell proudly boast that he is just the “Personal setup” for the guys in the audience. Making it known that he is aware of the affect of his music on the female attendees. Maxwell didn’t disappoint or fail in his job as he moved and grooved to “Till the cops come knocking’” where he spent what seemed like hours in a pose a yoga instructor would be proud of. Laying face up back arched doing his best to drive the ladies wild. Panties were thrown in abundance if not for one stray pair of boxers. Maxwell states “You know I’m a collector”, when a pair of undies hit the stage..no boxers. Maxwell jokes, “Wait these aren’t panties these are boxers…Darn it”. We were also treated to a very heart felt rendition of “This woman’s work”, a song which he states always makes him a bit “emotional”. Maxwell may of been the focus of most of the attention but he did his best to give some shine to the “Best band in the world” as he calls them. He took the time during the show to call them out by name and give them a chance to showcase their skill. The evening was wrapped up by a karaoke still style of “Ascension” where Maxwell periodically paused for audience participation. As the show ended the band got a chance to introduce themselves, some of which have roots in the Cleveland area or other areas only a stones throw away. Maxwell was more than gracious, more than humble and more than GREAT. The night came too quickly to an end and Maxwell vowed to come back again, where I’m sure he will have a more than welcoming return. Indeed Maxwell was appreciated. Thanks Max!

I feel torn having to right this but I went last night and I left disappointed. Yes he has that voice, he has that presence. My gripe is why didn’t I see 2 hours of it. I paid 89.50 for my tickets and expected Maxwell to belt out over a decade of beautiful songs. He only sang 12. I don’t know but I was expecting something like his MTV Unplugged performance but only better. I will say that I loved how he interacted with his fans. He was very personal and that did give the show a special touch. I guess I just expecting more.

I wanted so badly to go. last minutes change everything. They say you can plan the day, but you can’t plan the outcome. Though i would rather settle in knowing I can listen to His music, rather than never be blessed with his voice. I’m still a fan, even from my tiny room…
