My husband (of 5 years) and I who are native New Yorkers (he represents Queens, I was raised out in Brooklyn) attended the Maxwell concert at Heinz Hall and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. It was his first Maxwell experience and he asked me not to get too crazy at the show. Did he not get the memo? I was one of the founding members of maxwellappreciators.com back in ‘95/’96, have traveled the country to see Maxwell perform (Detroit, DC, Arizona, Vegas), attended the ‘7 Nights with Maxwell’ concerts in NYC, etc., but I digress because I love my husband dearly so I was on my BEST behavior.

Having lived in Pittsburgh for the past five years I can count on less than two hands the number of music concerts we have been excited about attending. Maxwell’s concert is definitely at the top of the list! I think it was genius having Chrisette Michele as the opening act. Her sound is amazing and her vibe complimented Maxwell’s very nicely. So after she set the stage ablaze the crowd was ready for the East New York crooner to bless us. During the intermission I took the liberty of forewarning the couple behind me that I would be standing for MOST of the show, so excuse my backside. That’s one thing I don’t understand about Pittsburgh concert goers, they tend to sit during the performance whereas I usually stand, dance and sing throughout the entire show. Go figure.

After the announcement was made NO PHOTOGRAPHY or you would be thrown out, IT WAS ON. Once the band started playing the Urban Theme the crowd went wild! His band is THE TRUTH! And then he came down those steps looking ‘CRISPY’ (his phrase) in his black slim fit suit, sequined black shirt, and white patent shoes and there was no turning back once he started singing Get To Know Ya. Maxwell was his usual playful self, but I also saw a more mature side of him last night, especially apologizing to the fellas and letting them know he has only been setting them up all this time. The only thing that’s a little ‘played out’ is the throwing the panties on the stage cliché, but I guess whatever works.

Hearing him perform Bad Habits and Cold live was definitely a pleasure as they are two of my favorite joints on BLACKsummers’night. I was hoping his set list was going to change up a bit from what I heard and he would throw in Stop The World too since that is my husband and mine latest between the sheets slow jam. We just found out we are expecting and husband was sweet and cuddly during Lifetime, This Woman’s Work, Pretty Wings and the extended sensual version of ‘Til The Cops Come Knockin’ (too freakin’ hot).

Overall, Maxwell and The Best Band Ever, put on a great show (although not drastically different than the 2008 tour) and I’m trying to work in a few more shows before the tour ends to experience the progression. I wish his set was a little longer, but I guess I have to wait until the release of the next two installments and hope for at least a two hour set.

Thank you Maxwell for blessing us with your GIFT and may MUSZE continue to inspire you.

Hello – Both me and my husband attended Saturday’s concert at Heinz Hall. Both performances were fabulous! I am so happy there was actually a concert I would enjoy. It is highly recommended by me if the tour comes to your city. Everyone looked so sharp and I definitely have to say to all of the Pittsburghers who attended, “YOU WERE A CLASS ACT”.
