Lord, Lord…what a show!! He never disappoints. I’ve seen him sooo many times and its brand new EVERYTIME.
I was the tall chick in the striped dress who gave him roses tonight :)

Not only did I get a hug and a kiss from this phenomenal man; I was able to tell him in his ear, amidst those thousands of people, “I love you. I’m so glad you are back.” It was my own personal moment.

I had never seen Chrisette Michele live & I must say I was certainly impressed by her stage presence & level of maturity. And yes, I’ll say it if no one else will, she is a MUCH better choice for opening act than Jazmin Sullivan. My opinion & I’m expressing it. Any way….

Before the lights went down & we heard the familiar strains of “The Urban Theme” there was a general announcement made that no photography of ANY kind would be allowed during Maxwell’s performance. Violators would be removed from the building. And they weren’t joking… attempts were made to escort folks out of their seats, but the folks near the front were smart & refused to leave, realizing it would be more of a distraction for security to forcibly throw them out.

With the 1st drum beats of “Get To Know Ya” the audience erupted in screams and Maxwell entered from the rear of the upper stage platform very debonair in his pin strip suite, designer shades & classic smile. He charmed the crowd immediately & his voice was strong.

“Sumthin’ Sumthin’ ” had him spinning & doing splits a la Jackie Wilson (yes, I’m old enough to remember.). Every time Maxwell performs “Lifetime” he has this look on his face that I can’t describe. It’s as if he goes somewhere else; as if he’s reliving the life lesson again.

OK time to ‘reader’s digest’ this review: “Bad Habits” – flawless, “Everwanting: To Want You To Want” – pinch me ’cause Maxwell must be doing some serious yoga workouts! He’s one Gumby I’d love to play Pokey with *smacking my own wrist* “This Woman’s Work was dedicated to ALL of the women in the audience because without women none of us would be on earth & women are the ones who nurture & heal the world. Ain’t he speshul?

Maxwell prefaced “Cold” by saying it was about a woman that he wanted very much to try & heat up again. And I think it was very savvy following up with “W/As My Girl.” I honestly expected to hear “Pretty Wings” earlier in the set, but I’m glad he waited until his pipes were good & warmed up (especially since he was sick every time I heard it last year & he was struggling with the falsetto.)

“Simply Beautiful” is where things got interesting. During the verse Maxwell kept motioning to a woman in the front row to come up to the stage – and she wouldn’t budge! I don’t know if she was worried about her man or what, but someone from behind her finally (literally) pushed her out of her seat. Maxwell leaned over the edge of the stage, cradled her in his arms & serenaded her. At the same time there was another very excited young lady anxiously standing behind the ‘serenadee’ waiting to hand Maxwell a rose. Then several others came to the stage to present gifts. I thought about it, but something told me ‘wait, this is not the right time’ so wait I did.

There was a beautiful goddess size young lady who waited patiently during “Fortunate” at the end of the stage & when Maxwell saw she was about to go back to her seat he motioned for her to wait. At an appropriate point in the song, he walked over to her, accepted her bouquet & a kiss on the cheek. Now THAT’s a class act!!

Before “…Til The Cops Come Knockin’ ” Max made the obligatory prelude regarding setting things up for the fellas & how they shouldn’t hate on him because his whole performance is abouting making it easy for the guys after the show. The music started & then Maxwell stopped the band because he said there were no panties up on the stage. Next thing you know, someone sling-shot a pair from the 2nd or 3rd row stage right! Their aim was great. Again, Maxwell said there we’re NOT enough panties on the stage & that was my cue. I stepped out from the 3rd row & slowly walked up to the stage with my ‘special’ bouquet. As he walked to the front of the stage I said with a smile “I got you on this” and he said “I remember you!” started laughing and gave me a huge bear hug. It was like sharing an inside joke with an old friend & I didn’t mind one bit that he was all sweaty ;o) Ummm did I mention that Maxwell has really increased his flexibility? Did I mention that Maxwell did a couple things with one of the pairs of panties in his ‘special’ bouquet that had me blushing & hoping my husband would still speak to me during the 5hr drive back home? Did I mention that Maxwell can do some serious pantomiming? Did it just get hot in here?

“Ascension (Don’t Ever Wonder)” was the encore & by that point security didn’t care any more about people taking pictures, so I got a couple few. The audience that night could actually carry a tune and did an awesome a cappela intro. At one point Maxwell handed the mic to a woman in the front row to sing the chorus and she amazingly handed it to her man – who had a very nice voice! It was outstanding! He even acknowledged my husband, who gave him a big thumbs up. Thank-you Maxwell for making that 5hr drive bearable ;o)
