Just as Malcolm Venable’s review stated, Norfolk, Virginia showed much love and appreciation for Maxwell performance last night.
Chrisette was amazing! She seemed to defy her 26 years. She is indeed an old soul with a mature, jazzy style that is reminiscent of Ella and Sarah. She received a standing ovation after her set, which included a tribute to Michael Jackson.

After a short while, anticipation for the man of the hour grew and his arrival did not disappoint! My daughter and I had fourth row center seats which placed us directly in front of Mr. M. I could see him and he could see me!

His first song was “Get To Know Ya” followed by “Sumthin’ Sumthin”. I don’t remember the order of the playset, but Maxwell sung, “EverWanting”, “This Woman’s Work”, “W/as My Girl”, “Fortunate” and “Lifetime”. Of the new songs, he sang “Bad Habits”, “Pretty Wings” and “Cold”. I was standing when he sang “Cold”, and since I know all the words, I was singing with him. He gave me several smiles and winks, pointing at me in acknowledgment! It was great. Maxwell did an incredibly “steamy” version of “Til the Cops Come Knockin,” much like the version he did in Atlantic City (see video on You Tube).

Security was very adamant about picture taking, so I don’t know if there will be anything on YouTube from this venue.
Norfolk showed Maxwell and the band so much love last night and he seemed truly overwhelmed. He kept stopping and thanking us, saying “I don’t know what else to say.” We reassured him that we were truly blessed by his presence. He ended the night with and encore of “Ascension”, letting us sing the song a capella before he and the band took over. Of course, Max let his AWESOME band introduce themselves before they left the stage. A GOOD TIME WAS HAD BY ALL!
