In excitement, R&B singer/actor Tyrese tweeted about this a few months back with title included. He said the song has a “Secret Garden” (Quincy Jones featuring Barry White, El Debarge, Al B. Sure!, and James Ingram) feel to it. With a name like “Pregnant”, we all know what type of song this will be, one of those “baby-making/grown-folk” songs.

Featured on this R. Kelly track is Tyrese, Robin Thicke, The-Dream and Maxwell. The song was produced/written by Ryan Leslie. Also, the song is on R. Kelly upcoming release “Untitled” set for release September 29, 2009. Will this be a single from the album, information is currently pending. UPDATE: Click here for snippet (Maxwell nor Robin Thicke are on the snippet, maybe their parts were taken out?) Thnks for the info Lisa!

I am keeping an optimist outlook, interested to hear what the song will sound like. Will it be able to “touch” the original secret garden song…don’t really know but there is no harm in trying. At any rate, I DEFINITELY want to hear your thoughts on MAXWELL appearing as a featured artist on R. Kelly’s upcoming album.

Maxwell’s voice on any song is a welcomed pleaseure. R. Kelly, Tyrese, Robin Thicke and Maxwell sounds like something I would like to hear. I ain’t baby-making but, I am grown- folk. LOL…
Waiting on you LMN…

Lisa August 10th, 2009 at 8:41 pm

Just went to Youtube…there’s a snippet of the song there…I did not hear Maxwell nor did I hear Robin Thicke, only R. Kelly and Tyrese, and like I said earlier, “I am grown-folk”, but this is not grown-folk music. It will never top “Secret Garden” in my opinion. I would still like to hear these artists on a track together but this is not it….

thelatestmaxwellnews August 10th, 2009 at 8:44 pm

Thanks for the info Lisa, maybe they cut Robin Thicke and Maxwell out of the song?

I try NOT to listen to R. Kelly’s music…but if Maxwell’s on there, then I will def. check it out.

Hello,

I just found a snippet of the song on youtube and I am a little lost for words.

Let me stress, this is only a snippet and not the whole song, which begins with R. Kelly singing over fingers snapping in the background. It is primarily about a man who meets/ sees a girl at a club and she has such a big booty that she makes him “want to lay her body down and get her pregnant.” To make matters worse someone is singing “knock you up” in the background (which is such a derogatory term for the gestation process).

As far as I can tell, they are not married nor in a long-term relationship …… he doesn’t know this woman from Adam …. she just looks so good that it make him want to have irresponsible unprotected sex and get her pregnant (no talk of who or how they will support the baby ….. maybe it’s in the second verse since this was only a snippet).

As a person who was raised by a single parent I would find it a little hard to believe that Maxwell (of all people) would be involved in a project like this, that promotes this message or method of conception. It’s even more surprising because this song is not even on Maxwell’s level. Melodically and lyrically it does not resemble anything in the vein of projects that Maxwell has previously been involved in (i.e. Sweetback’s Softly Softly or Seguranca from Red Hot Rio). The feel of this song is a cross between “Ignition – Feeling on your Booty & Birthday Sex.” I suspect this maybe because the song was not written by R. Kelly (who is a great lyricist) but rather written and produced by Ryan Leslie.

Honestly, I truly hope this information is flawed in some way (though I doubt it because Chantay is usually on point with her info).

Currently, Maxwell is enjoying immense popularity and has a successful album. Hence, I really can’t grasp the logic behind this decision. Unfortunately, between the twitter images of Maxwell and a very married Nas with those women while Kelis was 7 months pregnant, those 4 women floating on the Pretty Wings video and the storyline behind the Bad Habits video, I am sorely tempted to speculate that Maxwell “may” not have the high ideal and admiration for women that I originally thought. Mind you, my analysis is not based on anything other than the aforementioned, but this career choice of a song in conjunction with everything else troubles me.

Of course Maxwell is an autonomous being, who has the right to his own beliefs and agenda. He does not owe me or any woman anything. Lord knows he would not be first Black man to be involved in a project that contains a disparaging message about male-female relations; but I personally would find this to be disappointing (at best). It is one thing to be known as the muse and inspiration of “lovemaking ” it is something all together different to be involved in a project that talks about wanting to “knock up” some girl up after seeing her in a club.

Again, this is only a snippet …… it’s not the final product. But based on what I have heard of the lyrics, which were sung exclusively by R. Kelly, this was the impression that I was left with.

By all means, please feel free to check it out for yourselves: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=46nNKv421hM

Love & Light,

Jessica

Okay now I feel bad,

Let me just confirm that I actually love and respect Maxwell, which is why this song choice would be so painful.

The storyline behind the Pretty Wings and Bad Habits video can be forgiven. But the twitter images and this song (if he’s truly involved) not so much.

Love & Light,

Jessica

allheavens August 10th, 2009 at 10:32 pm

Sorry, but the youtube snippet clearly states that it is R. Kelly’s “Pregnant” featuring Tyrese. No mention of Maxwell, The Dream or Robin Thicke. People can “tweet” anything, and it goes viral all over the blogosphere. But unless someone can confirm this, meaning Maxwell’s publicist, I have no idea if it is true.

Hell, he didn’t want to record “Fortunate” because he didn’t write it. So why would appear as a “featured” artist on a recording called “Pregnant”? Oh well. *sighs and rolls eyes*

thelatestmaxwellnews August 10th, 2009 at 11:48 pm

@AllHeavens, almost everywhere on the internet on R. Kelly’s official track listing shows a song named PREGNANT featuring Tyrese, Robin Thicke, The-Dream and Maxwell.

13. Pregnant (feat. Tyrese, Robin Thicke, The-Dream & Maxwell)

The blog entry posted by myself was NOT ONLY based on tweeted information but on information that’s found all over the internet. Could the previously mentioned individuals have been cut from the song, yes.

It was not just “people” who tweeted the information it was found at http://twitter.com/Tyrese4ReaL which once you click the link you will see that this is a verified account. Meaning singer/actor Tyrese Gibson had to verify that this was indeed his twitter account.

As stated above, it said “TYRESE” tweeted.

Calandra August 11th, 2009 at 12:32 am

What’s that saying, “If you don’t have anything nice to say…”

I’m a lil disappointed. I will say that much.

Oh yeah, thank you for “Fortunate”, though. Okay, I said something nice.

allheavens August 11th, 2009 at 12:41 am

@THELASTESMAXWELLNEWS

I didn’t say it wasn’t true but I am highly skeptical. I checked out the blogoshpere BEFORE I posted and saw the R. Kelly’s track listing on multiple sites. However, I went to Zomba Label Group – Jive Records site (Kelly’s label) and backtracked to R. Kelly’s official website and myspace page, no mention of the album or a track listing on either one of them.

Maxwell hasn’t tweeted about it, nor has Kelly and until it is officially confirmed by Maxwell’s or Kelly’s reps it is unverified.

I think it is an elaborate joke, I mean even R. Kelly is more subtle than this.

But if I am wrong, then all props to you.

Cozumel August 11th, 2009 at 1:12 am

Dear God, please say it’s not true! I just cannot imagine Maxwell even humming more or less singing along with the likes of R. Kelly. If the lyrics in the snipet are any indication of what we will hear in the rest of the track and if Maxwell is on this cut; let us pray that Maxwell’s career won’t be damaged by participating in such a horrid project.

In my opinion, freedom of speech has gone up and beyond where it should go because every word put to instrumentation is NOT music nor song!!! In a time when we are trying to convince people to use protection during sex; this snippet seems to indicate that it’s ok to have unprotected sex, like the only thing that can happen is getting a female “PREGNANT” or like it’s no big ideal. WAKE UP PEOPLE, SEX IS NOT A SPORT!!!

Bama_Gurl August 11th, 2009 at 9:01 am

Check out Max’s twitter page. He gracefully addressed this rumor about 30 minutes ago.

MsIndependent3340 August 11th, 2009 at 9:39 am

Max tweeted that he has NO affiliation with this song.
It didnt sound like Max’s style anyway.

agree with everything you said here

if this is correct info then i dont know what maxwell smoking really i dont

He is soooo particular with doing duets with people and then after nearly damn 10 years away he appears on a song like this???

wtf i heard the snippet and no JUST NO its all kinds of superficial WRONG!!

Pynklipz August 11th, 2009 at 9:56 am

I think we need to concede that Maxwell is STILL a human being. The first album (Black) is about ‘love lost’-the situations and emotions that are involved in this theme are defined by the title. We’ve all done things and had things done to us that were not ‘right’ and throwing stones does not absolve us those experiences. I don’t know what Maxwell does in his personal life (in reference to the pics with Nas). I do know I appreciate him as an artist who triggers key emotions in many. Sometimes I think we need to watch our life’s story and remember the things we may not be pround of and thank God the world never HAS to know instead of constantly condemning people for falling short of perfection at times.

lala August 11th, 2009 at 9:57 am

praise the lord maxwell just tweeted its not true

thank you jesus!!

Nicole August 11th, 2009 at 10:03 am

Calm down people. Maxwell said on twitter this morning that he DID NOT record this song.

Nicole August 11th, 2009 at 10:23 am

@Jessica:

Wow. I cannot believe you wrote that entire judgemental dissertation on Maxwell.

@thelatestmaxwellnews:

Maxwell just tweeted again that he is NOT on that song. Please delete this post or print a retraction. Please

Bama_Gurl August 11th, 2009 at 10:26 am

ITA Pynklipz ~

We have ALL sinned and fallen short of His glory! Maxwell is human and NOT a saint, none of us are! Only GOD knows the things that we’ve all done. Let he or SHE without sin cast the first stone…..

Ask yourself this question: “If a video/song was made for every personal event in your life, what would the titles/lyrics of those songs be?”

Pynklipz August 11th, 2009 at 10:39 am

Forgive me- ITA?

Ckimyonw August 11th, 2009 at 10:40 am

THANK GOD Maxwell is not on this song. R. Kelly needs to grow up. This is an immature, dysfucntional song, and I think Maxwell has better taste.

Pynklipz August 11th, 2009 at 10:42 am

It’s ok…got it!

Bama_Gurl August 11th, 2009 at 10:44 am

I Totally Agree or In Total Agreement (ITA)

Pynklipz August 11th, 2009 at 10:55 am

LOL…thanks!

Calandra August 11th, 2009 at 11:13 am

Thank goodness. :)

Jessica August 11th, 2009 at 12:07 pm

Good Morning,

Thank you LMN for the update, as always you are on top of your game.

Much love to pynklipz, Nicole August, Bama Gurl and everyone who loves Maxwell enough and recognizes his “chivalrous” qualities as a gentleman to stand up for him and represent.

Maxwell has a body of work, both inside and outside of the studio, which speaks volumes. These are the qualities that I, as a woman, appreciate and they are what lead me to hold him in such high esteem. Needless to say, I would have been greatly disappointed if he were on this particular R. Kelly song (praise God he is not). However, the song in isolation though a bit hard to swallow would not be a deal breaker for me. My main is if you were to put together this song with everything else stated in my previous comments it leaves much to be desire; but again he is not on the song so all is forgiven.

Indeed, I do understand that we have all sinned and fallen short. I am only 4’10 and know all about falling short, believe me. But the beauty of Maxwell, from what is exhibited in his song lyrics, interviews and videos, is that he is very tactful about how he addresses his sins and shares them with the world. There was nothing tactful about that pregnant song or those twitter images.

Thank you for allowing me this forum to share my thoughts, I still love him but not without chaste or judgment.

God Bless to all,

Jessica

sanjay August 11th, 2009 at 1:15 pm

lol!
I guess the April 1st 2010 post titled “blackSUMMERS’night to be produced by R. Kelly” is out the window

Pynklipz August 12th, 2009 at 9:07 am

Personally, I’ll stick to judging his music…

Nicole August 12th, 2009 at 12:38 pm

@Jessica:

I’m sure you are a nice person at the end of the day.

But no amount of pretty and plentiful verbiage will justify your judgemental attitude of Maxwell.

Try being more judicious and let God judge the man.

cyntfrmheaven2cu July 22nd, 2010 at 4:49 pm

Thank God that maxwell is not on this dreadful song…even when he is being sexy in song it is always in good taste. R-Kelly is really gutter gutter and he exudes bad taste. ugh i just threw up in my mouth…..

hello July 10th, 2011 at 7:21 pm

Some of you sound like idiots saying “Thank God he’s not working with R. Kelly” His biggest hit to date was penned by R. Kelly!

thelatestmaxwellnews July 11th, 2011 at 11:44 am

@Hello naw, no one’s an idiot over here for expressing their opinions. Though R. Kelly can write his ass off, not everything he touches is tasteful.
