Top 25 MAXWELL: Reasons Why He Should Win ANY Award

Top 25 MAXWELL…series continued. LMN is definitely excited that R&B/Soul artist MAXWELL has been nominated for an American Music Awards (2009) for Favorite Soul/R&B Male Artist where fans can VOTE for him to win. The following 25 are probably factors which have and will result in MAXWELL being nominated for awards over the next few weeks/months/year. But they are also great factors as to why he should win. If you have any to add, please do. Special thanks to those who helped in the 25!

And he is so fine!!!! LOL

Dr. V. Williams October 14th, 2009 at 10:51 am

He just finished his 73rd show on his BSN Tour, he’s all over the Radio, and still when you hear him, it’s like the first time. WOW!!!! Now that’s a WINNER!!!!

samira najlaa October 14th, 2009 at 10:55 am

Maxwell deserves to win because he just makes darn good music. His music is inspired rather than contrived or formulaic. It’s brilliant rather than banal. It’s refreshing rather than repetitive, which is why his music is so loved now in a music scene that has become stagnant. All of which has translated into his amazing album sales, critically acclaimed album and concert reviews, and air play. And isn’t is just about time already! (lol)

Cam October 14th, 2009 at 12:05 pm

Maxwell deserves to win ANY award because that same ENERGY, PASSION, AND EMOTION that he expresses in his music….he EVOKES that same “ELECTRICITY” in ME!! And ALL his fans and listeners all over the world!! It overwhelms my soul and spirit! And not every artist can do that….I call that an “anointing”….he touches and inspires me soooo much…and I ADORE his humility and how he gives honor to God for his gift and bringing his so far. This is ONLY the beginning….this man is not going anywhere! I LOVE YOU MAXWELL!

Bama_Gurl October 14th, 2009 at 12:19 pm

I AGREE, AGREE, AGREE!! Seriously, there are no other “current” R&B/Neo-Soul/Pop male artists whose music LITERALLY touches you on such an emotional level. His music is so ‘real’ and not 100% synthesized. He’s definitely comparable to the “late greats”. I love Hip-Hop but I’m tired of people singing about $$, swagger, cars, girls and I promise ya IF I see ONE more bottle of Nuvo in a video!! It’s so nonsensical and I can’t relate to it (other than the Nuvo as it’s pretty good ;) ). Everyone can relate to love and love-lost, regardless of your socioeconomic status.

He’s selling the records, touring the world, getting the airplay and is such a humble being. He’s the total package and he musically ‘speaks to your soul’ with a very palpable spirit so you know it’s coming from a real place in his heart. The concerts = sold out mostly! Women have a momentary phase of parthenogenesis (shout out to all of us women who have had his Twitter babies too!). Lil Tweet and Tweet-ette are doing fine BTW.. lol. Thanks Chantay!

Brenda McNeal October 14th, 2009 at 2:23 pm

Maxwell.
I don’t know what else to say about this man, I attended the Washington, DC concert alone. I had the time of my fifty something life. I don’t know what happened to me that night, but I have not been the same. I play his music 24/7. My friends and family are tired of me talking about this man “Like I know him”. I have read everything on the net that I could have. I have pictures of him…that I took at the concert…I have never paid for any ticket as much as I paid to see him on 2 Oct. I need help…he has changed my life…I found myself in tears listening to his music at times…because it’s so heartfelt..I really should talk to someone about this…but, I can talk to myself. I am a certified psychologist…I hope that one day I can meet him. I love him….He should win many awards!

Brenda McNeal October 14th, 2009 at 2:26 pm

This is great! Thanks for keeping us informed!

P. Elaine October 14th, 2009 at 5:22 pm

Because he NATURALLY does what others strive for years to do; MAKE GOOD MUSIC, REAL MUSIC. His music feels so good it hurts;-)

I love, love, love Fist Full of Tears and Love You. Along with the hits. Bad Habit more so than Pretty Wings which is a lovely song.

sharon October 14th, 2009 at 8:11 pm

Brenda,

I know where you are coming from I feel the same way. I’m fifty something too and have just lost it over this man. I have been to 3 Maxwell concerts in 2009. I can’t get enough.

I think it may be that back in the day our generation had singers like Marvin Gaye, Teddy P. and Luther. There has been no one around like that for a long while. Maxwell fills a big gap for us middle age ladies.

I just love me some MAXWELL!

Thank you Chantay for this site. I check it everyday.

sanjay October 14th, 2009 at 8:33 pm

Don’t hate me, but it has to be said, cuz I know we are all thinking the same thing.

1. I love MJ as much as everyone else, and I want to make this clear. I have loved his work from when I first heard it. Off the Wall is one of my favourite albums. etc etc etc

Unfortunately MJ will win the vote, and that fight was over before voting even began.
1. People are still emotional and there are over 7.24 billion people on earth of which 6 billion would be able to recite MJ before religious scripture of any faith.

Do I agree with this AMA nomination list, absolutely not, there is no reason for “This is It”, to even be nominated this year. The song was released after the AMA announced who was up??? That doesn’t make sense. I think an award for MJ for his work is deserved as a lifetime achievement. But I think it is wrong that this is indeed going to be a popularity contest. And music will not matter.

Hopefully the Grammy’s will acknowledge the body of work that Maxwell has put out.

Janice Clark October 14th, 2009 at 9:42 pm

Maxwell is just a PERFECTIONIST with his ART in music. He shows the many different CULTURES of SOCIETY its not just about making MONEY and the FAME, its the CREATION of making GOOD RESPECTFUL music he loves.

BLACKsummers’night to me reflexs a REALISTIC story in a AUDIO version. It represents: LOVE, DECIET, GIVING and TRUTH IN REALITY. The many GRATITUDES he has for his TALENTED BAND that helped produce this PERFECT SOUND for this long awaiting album after HOLDING BACK 8 years of his music.

Maxwell came back showing us that HE STILL GOT IT PLUS MORE.
Yes MAX, I see the FUTURE. U R THERE!!!

Ms Deb October 14th, 2009 at 11:19 pm

@Sanjay, unfortunately, I agree with you 100%. It doesn’t seem right that MJ is even in the same category as Max, Favorite Soul/R&B Artist. MJ was and always will be remembered as the King of POP. That being said, I agree that MJ will win just because he’s MJ and people are still reeling over his untimely death. Doesn’t make it right though. :O(

Brenda McNeal October 14th, 2009 at 11:37 pm

My Sisters;
Thanks so much for your great comments about our Maxwell…it is good to know that I am not a “crazed fan” but a mid-aged intelligent woman that has discovered someone who can translate, and communicate feelings into song like I have never heard before. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts, let communicate often about our special man. I just get deep with “Bad Habits” Girl!!!

Jackie October 15th, 2009 at 12:39 am

I agree with Sanjay but my vote went to Maxwell. I don’t believe it was in vain because in my heart Max will always be a winner.

2Serenity October 15th, 2009 at 1:36 am

Dear God,

Please allow maxwell to win an American Music Award so he maybe inspired to evolve as a musician.

Stroke his ego. PLEASE.

I feel the appreciators have done all they can do in cyberspace, buying the music and paying money out the ying yang during this recession to see him.

He needs validation from the people in the form of a shiny award to help him get his head on right to visually see and feel that he is up there with the legends he is compared to. Prime example – Marvin Gaye.

Thank you!

:)

Bama_Gurl October 15th, 2009 at 11:45 am

@Brenda… You are not alone and I don’t think we’re crazed fans! He does have some serious twitter stalkers though! I’ve never really gotten the whole groupie thing. I have standards/requirements, which most have forgotten about in my generation. I think the AMAs are based on records sales as well, so that would explain why MJ is there. If the award is given based on votes only?, then of course MJ will probably get one or more posthumously (I voted for Max ;) ) So, being the man that I “think” he is… Max will understand if MJ wins that specific category. I know he’s happy to be nominated, but still wanna win. I’m waiting for him to bring home the trophies as well!

So, come nominations in December, Ima need to hear his name in at least 3 Grammy categories! ;) I truly believe that he’ll win & that God is truly blessing his life right now…

tee October 15th, 2009 at 6:27 pm

His deserved win will furthEr validate the need for a return of real MUSIC and the man who brought it back!!

soulshadow55 October 16th, 2009 at 4:46 pm

I also voted for Maxwell to receive the AMA but, like others have already stated, I think MJ will win. Mostly because of who he was and his untimely passing. I can understand and appreciate that.

I’m more interested in Maxwell receiving a Grammy than an AMA. The AMA’s are fluff awards started by many years ago by Dick Clark, and, in my opinion, they really aren’t that prestigious. Moreover, Maxwell is not really into winning awards and alcolades. He’s said many times that he doesn’t do this to get awards or to break records – he does it for the love of the music, the art of making music and for his fans.

Maxwell is the truth. He’s a breath of fresh air in the music industry. Like a few others have mentioned, I never really got into rap music. I practically hate most of it. I think it’s so sexist, hateful and degrading towards women and gives these young men false images of the world. Maxwell sings of real life, real problems and tells you love can conquer all. And he does it with interesting, thoughtful lyrics that he writes HIMSELF. His musicianship is outstanding and you can hear in his music all the influences that he grew up with. The Latin influences, his Haitian background, old school R&B as well as Rock.

My love for him is only that I hope he meets the woman of his dreams, has those health babies he speaks about and lives a life filled with the love of a good woman and children.

Bama_Gurl October 16th, 2009 at 6:59 pm

@SOULSHADOW55 = BEAUTIFULLY STATED!! I couldn’t agree more!! I think I’ll “almost” be as elated as Maxwell when he finds his “good thing” and settle down/have kiddos. It seems as though he has so much love to give on ‘that level’ and wants it badly per articles read. I may play around sometimes on the public websites, but I’m soo serious with my praying over his life. He deserves it! We all do……

FEE October 16th, 2009 at 7:18 pm

#26 It couldn’t happen to a nicer person.

Susan October 16th, 2009 at 7:29 pm

Love it Chantay. Need to add he is just damn fine!!! I want to see him win so I can see him smile when he gets the award. His smile…..wooooo

Luscious Carob Bean October 16th, 2009 at 7:34 pm

@ Sanjay @MsDeb – ditto that! Unfortunately the AMAs are about popularity (but I will still cast multiple votes for Maxwell.). With any blessedness, Maxwell will win the big G!

Lisa October 16th, 2009 at 7:50 pm

AGREE, AGREE, AGREE and NO artist I know of has came back into the game after being gone so long and get the same love he had when he left us. And yes, I too think Maxie wants to win, he is humble and says winning an award isn’t all that but, come on, he’s a MAN so you know that ego is stroking around somewhere in his beautiful soul. Maxie I wish you nothing but the best and you deserve every award that you are nominated for. And always THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for returning back to the game “IT’S TIME FOR A CHANGE IN THIS MUSIC INDUSTRY!

Gigi Washington October 17th, 2009 at 5:26 am

Maxwell deserves to win the AMA award and any other because he gives you the total package. If you want a genuine, unique voice…throw it in the bag. If you want an exceptional performer with GREAT stage presence…throw it in the bag. If you want an awesome CD…throw it in the bag. If you want a CD that has already made history…throw it in the bag. If you want a gracious, humble brother…throw it in the bag. If you want a absolutely gifted man…throw it in the bag. And when you wrap this all up you have MAXWELL…the TOTAL package!!!

Cassidy October 17th, 2009 at 3:35 pm

@ Serenity

May God bless you for that prayer.

I co-sign 100%

Aundrea October 18th, 2009 at 11:50 pm

NAXWELL should win, simply because he’s one of the few artists out there making real music. And that goes for so called, R&B singers, ROCK, Punk, and Jazz musicians too. No one is original anymore, they just seem to follow the current trend. We have been experiencing a musical drought literally, for the last 8 years, and it took Maxwell to resuscitate us. Like an oasis in the desert. I will be sorely disappointed if Max doesn’t win and instead they give 5 awards to some gimmick. But whether he wins or not, his music is genius. All the best.

Geminigirl October 18th, 2009 at 11:55 pm

I understand why MJ was nominated, but when I see that he is in the same category as Maxwell, my heart screams, NOOOOOOOOOOO!!! When MJ passed, I felt like I had lost a family member so I have a lot of love for him. Maxwell’s music touches my soul in the same way that MIchael’s music did. It’s been so long since I have paid attention to lyrics & given deep thought of what a song is really all about. Blacksummers’night has renewed my love for R&B & it also helps that the man behind the music is super fine & makes me feel grown & sexy!

Frances October 19th, 2009 at 2:03 pm

He deserves to win for of all the reasons above and even more. He’s pure genius and in a league of his own. I lurvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv him!!!!!!!!

Dynasty October 21st, 2009 at 12:11 pm

Maxwell deserves “any” award, for all the reasons stated before mine, and my top 3 in particular.
(1) being he simply has earned it…this man is beautiful, and has a beautiful voice, and I’m thankful that he chooses to share his amazing GIFT with us all. (2) Maxwell “brings it”, his band “brings it”, when most ppl are using the studio to help them sound good, and they sound a hot mess live, Maxwell sounds good “all the time” especially live, the man can sing the same song 1000 times, and make it sound “new” (3) he is the most humblest performer I’ve had the pleasure of seeing.

Star October 22nd, 2009 at 11:15 pm

@Sanjay…

Top 25 MAXWELL: Reasons Why He Should Win Any Award

As much as we ALL LOVE and MISS M-Jay I AGREE with you COMPLETELY… (Sadly, this is how the world gets down.)

The CLARITY and QUALITY of Maxwell’s VOCALS and the MUSIC are IMPRESSIVE!!! Sooooooo MELODIC, he is UNIQUE! :)

Were it not for the “M” CHATTER, the “M” INTIMACY, in the “M” LANGUAGE we ALL LOVE and UNDERSTAND (during his live performances) It would be almost impossible to distinguish the live versus the recorded vocals on cd, dvd, etc. As indicated in the 25 reasons, no Autotune!!!

You heard it here first!… Maxwell in our hearts and minds is the the Solo R&B Favorite Male Artist!!! He can count on my VOTES! :)

sillithea October 23rd, 2009 at 10:15 pm

Maxwell is the best! His music has soul, no one can compare, this music has me happy, even after a bad day. I can be mad as hell, Maxwell comes on the radio and it seems like I just heard some good news, nothing but smiles. He must win, unlike all these other fake singers sound good in the studio, see them live it’s a nightmare. Been a fan since 1996 and not going no where. Go get your award you deserve it. Peace and blessing.

fanforlife October 28th, 2009 at 10:19 am

Number 16 should be replaced with he simply has more natural talent than any other artist out there including Whitney Houston who has somewhat lost hers. (I love you Whitney, but sorry, the voice has slipped.)

fanforlife October 28th, 2009 at 10:38 am

Brenda McNeal, I agree with you. I’m mid 40′s and I have completely lost my mind over this man. What is the best internal feeling you’ve ever experienced? That’s what I experience when I hear him singing Bad Habits; it goes straight to my soul. I have his picture as my desktop wallpaper and his pictures as my screensaver slideshow. When I’m not working, I’m either singing his songs or listening to him. I play him at night to fall asleep.

I watched his live performance on Jimmy Kimmel and had an umm… how can I say this delicately… an eruption!!! Lol. It’s crazy. I’ve never done that before. I never had the chance to see him in person, but if he’s ever in my area again I will be the first in line to buy a ticket no matter what the cost.

tyf2816 November 15th, 2009 at 11:41 am

Max is simply beautiful. I’ve had the pleasure of attending 2 concerts this yr. Waited such a long time. He deserves 2 win because he is all that everyone has said but he is a true artist-luv art in every form of the word. It’s apparent he luvs traveling(following him on twitter). I think the hiatus served him well as an artist and as a man. Can’t wait for the nxt 2 cd’s. My whole family luvs him.

tyf2816 November 15th, 2009 at 11:46 am

Oh yes, I had to mention I love all of his music but Unplugged gets me because he is the best live performer I have ever heard/seen. His voice is beautiful. I would love to hear another live album. He is my bff in my mind. Just simply puts a smile on my face and pleasant thoughts in my head. Would just love to meet him face to face one day and express gratitude and just capture that awesomeness on film. Okay, that’s it. I’m out.

peace November 29th, 2009 at 8:53 pm

Love you too much MAX…;)
