“I haven’t had any altercations with any men seeking to find out if I would show up to Jerry Springer to take a paternity test. I don’t have any of those problems. I will say to all the fellas out there that, seriously, I am a setup. I’m just like rose petals. I’m like incense. I’m a background thing for you when you do your thing with your lady. I’m a friend, only assisting you in your lurve machinations. So have no fear of me, people.” (Tough Questions for Maxwell, Spin Magazine, 2009)
4.
“Women are really, really dope. You are really amazing. You can have kids, you can create. You do remarkable shit. You reflect and exemplify the universe in a way that men don’t. And it’s all right to be cool with that. You don’t have to hear it from another woman, you can hear it from a man.” (Men Speak From the Heart, The Sex Symbol, Essence Magazine, 1997)

“I actually can accept love a lot easier. I don’t question it so much. I’m not suspicious as much. I was pretty suspicious. Especially when you start to have celebrity around you, you don’t know if people really like you or if they’ve got stars in their eyes or whatever. I’m much more trusting. I feel a lot more permanent especially with the time away and coming back.” (Maxwell on Music, Love and His Hair, Associated Press, 2009)

Maxwell said several times he loves Femi and he loves Fela. (2 well respected African singers) He also said that he loves all those African singers. Then he went on to say that the intersection between Africa and America is so unique. Maxwell’s acknowledgment of the intersection of Africa and America proves that he has an inquisitive mind that has probably studied the history of Africans throughout the Diaspora. He definitely has an appreciation of history especially African history. (TRACE TV Interview, 2009)

It’s a good thing to hear what a person in the entertainment industry has to say about life, love….everything. I want to really know the entertainers I like as real people….NOT idols. Maxwell I see you as someone I can relate to on many different levels. You have confirmed that through some of what you said here. Thanks for keeping it real..Much Love and Kisses
