Maxwell shows there are times when the perfect blazer speaks louder than a full suit

Anyone remember the neo-soul movement? At the back end of the 1990s, it was the patchouli yin to hip-hop’s Polo-cologne yang. But at the dawn of the 2000s, the careers of neo-soulers like D’Angelo, Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill, and this guy, Maxwell, started disintegrating one at a time. Hell, even Maxwell pulled a Dave Chappelle. I mean, Maxwell? What demons could the smooth dude in tinted shades who made 1996′s Urban Hang Suite be facing that would cause him to disappear for almost a decade? Well, in case you missed him tearing down the Staples Center at this year’s Grammys with his lovesick hit “Pretty Wings,” he’s back. And to hear him tell it, he didn’t spend eight years out of the public facing private demons. He spent eight years in private dodging public demons. “I didn’t want to have a midlife crisis,” Maxwell says. “People who are very focused in their early twenties miss out on being young. Then they bug out.” So in addition to behaving like a normal twentysomething by going out a lot, he recorded three albums’ worth of material. And sat on it. Until now. Last year he released the dark, moody heart-tugger BLACKsummers’night, and it debuted at number one. (People desperately miss neo-soul.) The other two albums will come out over the next few years. After that? “I stepped away once,” Maxwell says, “and I’ll do it again.”

I just drooled on my keyboard. Dag, Max is looking extra fine in these pics. The bright colors suit him and those clothes are fitting him to a “t”!!! What a man, what a man, what a mighty GOOD man! He’s got it all, looks, intelligence, sense of humor, sensitivity, humility, kind heart….. someone needs to clone him ASAP, I’ll be first in line to get mine!

I love them !!! Even though his pants were a little tight in one I know he was channeling the style of Sam Cooke and Harry Belafonte, with a little touch of his own style. He looks so so sexy. I don’t think Maxwell can take a bad picture ever…. Thanks LMN

I’m loving it all! Not digging the pants in the second photo. However, I do get that it’s all part of photo shoot’s theme. He’s still gorgeous as hell!

Thanks so much for the heads up about Maxwell’s photo shoot in GQ! I had this magazine in my house and didn’t even know Maxwell was in it! It almost slipped by me. My husband sent away for subscriptions to a bunch of magazines so I never know what’s going to come in the mail. As soon as I read that Shia LaBeouf was on the cover, I quickly asked my husband if he had it…He said yes and gave it to me. It was still in the plastic cover (which I guess protects it from getting wet) and of course, I TORE it open and searched for the pictures. My husband asked if I wanted him to tear the pictures out. I love my husband! LOL
