Me and my wife just got back from the va beach concert. I was totally blown away, Maxwell did the damn thing big time from his band to the vocals everything. JIll SCOTT IS A GODDESS!!!!! The best female singer of our generation, she looked gorgeous and she sounded even better. It is a shame this concert will not continue because it is a killer lineup. I came primarily to see Jill Scott, I always respected Maxwell’s talent and I have his new album but I LOVE JILL!!! After this concert though I am going to go get his older cds. To Maxwell and Jill it was classy how you two showed each other love during your sets I hope you can resolve whatever problems you have in the future and tour again because I will be in the front row
VIP next time.

It definitely was a HOT show both temperature and performance wise!! ;-) As we know He always talks and interacts w/the crowd but last nite he was quite the comedian and upped the nastiness a bit…loved it!!
And as always Jill brought it!!

Hi Maxwell and Band,

I wasn’t at the Virginia performance, but please know that you guys are in my prayers. Make sure you rest and recuperate and enjoy the beautiful summer. Can’t wait to see the performance on the Today show.

Blessings and Love,
Dawn

P.S Can’t wait to start hearing about the second album from the trilogy.

I was there last night in the HEAT of the night! Jill was absolutely wonderful! She sang divinely, taking time to talk with the audience about love, life and her music. Did I mention it was HOT? The Amphitheatre was full of admirers, women with fans (to cool themselves) and men with handtowels (to wipe away persipration). Maxwell came out to a roaring crowd in his signature three piece gray suit. He joked about maybe wearing “flip-flops a tank and shorts,” but said, he woudn’t do that to us. He proceeded to put on a fabulous show despite the HEAT, singing most of “Black,” different arrangements of “Reunion” and “Drowndeep Hula” (yes!!) and the audiences’ favorites, including “Ascesion,” “Somthin’Somethin” and “Fortunate.”

It seemed as if all that HEAT stimulated Max to make very provocative comments while singing “Stop the World and “Til the Cops Come Knockin,” but he also commented on the tradgedy in the Gulf and told us that a portion of his tickets receipts are going to charity. The stage was set up with screens that showed images of Haiti during the rendition of “Help Somebody” and other various graphics and images throughout the show. The concert ended with Maxwell returning to the stage to sing “Pretty Wings.” Everyone seemed to have have enjoyed the nght despite the HEAT!!!

My husband and I saw the show in DC and came back home and decided to go to the VABeach show. Once again Maxwell and Jill did not disappoint! They are both so talented. Maxwell is such a good entertainer and artist. I have spent the last 24 hrs reading the articles and listening to interviews on this website. Maxwell has a beautiful spirit and he is so modest. I really appreciate that as a fan. My husband and I are so upset we didn’t opt for the VIP seats in DC but we definitley will be getting those tickets the next time around so we can meet the LEGEND Maxwell. Blessings and Love to Maxwell and band!!

Lord have mercy. I had the extreme and ultimate pleasure of having front row seats for this show…row A. I can not even
begin to tell you how excited I was about seeing two of my favorite artists…. Jilly was VERY cordial to her tourmate Maxwell and he was nothing less than that towards her. They both kept it very classy and I liked that. Professionals at all times. The show was soooooooooo good, it was 3 days ago and it’s still in the forefront of my mind and ALL that I wanna talk about!!! I’m on a high and nobody can make me come down!!!!!

I am a Jill FAN-ATIC and have seen her about 6 times in concert and every time she delivers and each performance is better than the last. I love her spirit…she said “Are ya’ll hot? Well I’m hot too and we are going to be hot together…” LOL! She looked amazing and sounded sooooo beautiful. She KILLED it…there is no other way to describe it. She even did a bit of opera for us too with her angelic voice. Her background singers were on point from their voices to their dance moves and they could probably point me out in a line up because I was sitting directly in front of them, snapping pictures and screaming my fool head off the entire time Jill was out there. Jill’s band is amazing too, I mean she has a very talented group of professionals working with her. And when she did Crown Royal on Ice….Jill made me wanna go get some right that second…awesome performance from her and it was nothing less than what I expected, it was more! Especially when she did Not Like Crazy. Brought a tear to my eye because she sang that with soooooo much emotion….and that song is real talk on every level. Love you sooo much Jill! Got ALL of your albums, girl and listen to them all the time!!

Now. On to Mr. Urban Hang Suite himself. Maxwell came out on that stage (I was at the foot of the stage waiting for him too…hollering “hey baby”) with that gray 3-piece suit on and I know it was at least 95 degrees in the covered section of the theater…I mean it was hot as IRAQ out that piece, but that DID NOT stop him from putting on a show for us…he came ready, willing and able to give it to us and he did. He was ALL over that stage giving us a sho-nuff SHOW, he was doing the splits, swinging the mic stand and singing his heart out.

He had me and the rest of the crowd down front moving and straight GROOVING when he did Ascension (don’t ever wonder) and Sumptin, Sumptin…”so if it’s cool, I wanna rock with you, slip you mellow groove…” Maxwell, honey please believe it is SO cool and I’m ready to rock with your fine self!! He did get a smide on the nasty side when he did Stop the World and Till the Cops Come Knocking and I didn’t mind at all…in fact I LOVED every second of it. I did want to hear him sing Suite Lady from the UHS album, but in hindsight I’m glad he didn’t because I would have gone absolutely ballistic and tried to climb up the 10 -12 foot stage wall to get to him because that is my ALL TIME FAVORITE song on that album and when I hear it, my GOD it just does something to me…that is the kind of love that I’m talking about!!!!!! I also would have liked to have heard Cococure too, but I know the man can’t sing all of his songs.

Now a word about his band. I’m gonna need them to come out with an album because they are SLAMMING. I can definitely see them having an album because they are very talented instrumentalists. GOSH, they were good. They were so good, they were BAD. I mean BAD to the bone. So were his background singers, especially the young lady who did the Reunion remix with him. He walked off the stage for a minute and then after a bunch of us were screaming “pretty wings” he came back and did it for us, just like he planned to I’m sure…I loved it.

It was a great concert and I was able to get some good pictures of my loves Jill and Maxwell. It was wonderful to see SO MANY people out on a weeknight (it was a Tuesday
and I was sooooo tired Wednesday I wanted to cry) to show love and support the two of them. Even though it was hot as the SUN out there, it was an AWESOME show and
I wouldn’t change a thing. I do wish that I could have met them though, but maybe next time, because there will definitely be a next time, trust if they are on the east coast I will be going to see them.

Jill thank you for being and continuing to be the REAL THING!! Let them haters hate on us baby, because I am NOT ashamed of who I am and I know you’re not either!! Maxwell, I love your humble spirit, your words and your beautiful music, thank you for coming off of hiatus to bless us with an album!!! I have missed you so much! Thank you both for delivering a concert that I will remember for years to come!!!!!!!!

Until we meet again, be blessed. I have so much love for the both of you….ya’ll just don’t know….

I drove three hours to see this concert. Because of the traffic, it seemed soooo much longer. The further along I went the worse the traffic got. But I was determined to make it, and make it on time! (I did too thanks be to God). This was my very first time seeing the very talented Maxwell and the beautiful Jill Scott live, but it won’t be my last!!!! Jill Scott was indescribable. I had to hold back tears on her new song. (I forgot the name of it). I never thought she was an artist I would like to see live, but I must say I would come out of pocket to see her again. She has a stage presence like none other and she involves the audience because she captures you from the first note to the last. Must say that I loved her ending. Shades and the Addidas jacket, gotta love it. Even though I enjoyed every minute of Jill Scott, I couldn’t wait for her to finish so I could see Maxwell (Please forgive me Jilly from Philly fans!)…

On to the one and only Mr. Pretty Wings. I personally feel that my section wasn’t as into the show as I would have liked. I understand the heat and the humidity were both crazy but the love wasn’t there for me. I screamed from pure excitement and delight and every time I did people would turn and look at me like I was disturbing the peace. I mean, did I miss the memo to sit perfectly still like a bump on a log? (Aside from having to see him in a different venue, I guess I will have to start saving for his next tour so I can be front and center and not have to wonder ‘Oh am I too loud?’) Nevertheless, Maxwell was amazing. He entertained us through music, dance, and a little laughter. I took my cousin along and she and I are still laughing over his joke about choking and being gentle only when standing up. And how he joked about coming out on stage in a pair of flip flops, tank top and a pair of Nike shorts. I don’t think anyone would have complained. At least I know I wouldn’t have. I feel kind of slighted. Even though Maxwell performed and performed well in his alloted timeframe, I was so into the show that it didn’t feel long enough. If only he could have heard me begging for just one more song. He thanked us and left the stage. People jumped up as though they couldn’t wait to get out of the amphitheater. Those people missed out on his last song of the night (one of my favorites) Pretty Wings. I drove the distance to hear him sing that and Stop the World. If I didn’t get to hear anything else from him that night, those two were a must!

I borrowed a camera and recorded as much as the show as possible so I could watch this talented entertainer over and over again, and not have to rely heavily on memory… The quality of of my video came out great but I have no sound :-( Overall this was a performance not to be forgotten. I’m patiently awaiting the release of blackSummer’snight and hopefully a tour to accompany.

Maxwell if you do take the time out of your busy schedule to read what your fans say, please please please come back to the two up two down (VA) and bless us with your talent once more… I wouldn’t mind you blessing a few of us fans with VIP passes to see you backstage either!!!! LOL

Danniemarie honey you tickled me when you said that you missed the memo about having to sit like a bump on a log. Girl, I was hollering so loud that I couldn’t talk on Wednesday, in fact, I was SO loud, other people were asking ME to holler for THEM. It was all the way live down front…and that’s where you need to be next time…FAN-atics sit in the front! And I wasn’t going ANYWHERE until I heard him sing pretty wings…I was looking at the stage so I didn’t see anyone running out…actually no one where I was moved a muscle LOL! I’m sorry your audio didn’t come out, but I got some great clips, if you go to my FB you can look at them! I’m glad you enjoyed the concert too!

Namaste June 26th, 2010 at 3:11 pm

I am loving all of your comments! I saw Maxwell and Jill in DC and I am still on a high too. I am glad it is not just me! LOL

Jamal I know you are new to Maxwell but I heard an interview with Jill in Philly and she clears up the rumors about her and Maxwell not getting along. She says that Max is her dude and that he has wonderful energy! Besides Max is a lover not a fighter and Jill is too real to believe that they had real beef!

Stay cool my fellow Maxwell Fanatics!

Namaste

LOL @Stephanie. I had just finished reading your review and was surprised that you responded to mine… Its good to know that someone else was as into the show as I was and I wasn’t the only one screaming like none other LOL:) … I wish I could have been up front with you. I’ll definitely have to save up so I can be as close to the stage as possible. Be grateful you were as close as you were! I couldn’t believe how many people were leaving and just as shocked when some people were there to see that he had come back and still left. My cousin had to push me out of our row because I didn’t want to leave until I saw the back of his head leaving the stage. LOL… I would love to look at your clips, what is your FB address?

Stephanie June 28th, 2010 at 1:37 am

Danniemarie when I tell you it was over and I was still just sitting there like…stuck…as in couldn’t move…I think of it now and get so tickled. I was mesmerized. Just so in awe that I was so close…I think of it now and get chills! It is just today that my high has started to subside and I know my family is SICK of me talking about it, but they just don’t know. My FB is facebook.com/stephaniemholloway.

After we heard that Maxwell would not be coming to Columbia, SC my 3 daughters and I drove to Chessepeke from Augusta, Ga (7) hours to see the concert. I have always wanted to see Maxwell in concert and my daughters decided to take me. It was very hot but so was Maxwell and Jill. It was so worth the trip and I hope to see the concert again but a little closer to home.
