Okay Ladies, Here is my review. Let me start by saying I was never really into Jill Scott, no particular reason… however, after tonight I am a fan. This woman can “sang” not sing but “sang”. Her voice is Golden. She did it up. I look forward to purchasing her new cd. Now on to my Maxwell. I was a little disappointed not by his performance but by the stage. Although, I had floor seats and they were about 20 rows back, he seemed so far away. I felt like last year’s “Y” shape stage allowed him to be more intimate with his audience. That’s just me I guess.

However, his performance did not disappoint at all. He treated us to “Simply Beautiful”, “Lady of My Life” and “Don’t Say Good Night” as well as his cd hits. I love Maxwell, he gives a great performance,he is fully committed to making sure we are enjoying ourselves, he is so sexy and he loves NEW YORK !!!!

I’m honored to be seeing him again tomorrow with Ms. Badu and this time I’ll be closer, I hope I don’t pass out Ladies :)

This was my first time seeing either of them in concert at MSG tonight and neither of them disappointed! The show was excellent! Ms. Scott was phenomenal! She walked out in an addidas warm up jacket and glittery pants that sparkled so much everyone in the top balcony surely could have seen them (most likely in honor of MJ) she got the crowd really hype with her boisterous vocals and powerful note holding. She even slow grinded with 1 of her backup vocalists which sent us in a frenzy (him being cute helped ;-) She almost brought me to tears as she choked back her own during her rendition of “He loves me” but not only did she pull it together, she awesomely hit operatic like notes which brought everyone to their feet at the song’s closing for a standing ovation. Simply put, Jilly from Philly tore it down!

After a brief intermission where I grabbed some popcorn and sprite to snack on while chatting with my section seatmates, the theatre grew dark as a rick ross song blasted over the speakers (that one caught me by surprise and I was afraid that I was going to see ross’ big belly appear on stage…thank God it didn’t!) After the song subsided the stage lights glowed on and the man’s silhouette could be seen behind a screen as he danced to his band’s jamming chords. In one of the first few songs he sang about helping somebody and mentioned that his proceeds would go to Haiti relief. He then thanked the crowd for helping him to help someone else. He epitomizes sexy and danced throughout most of the show running to the left, right and center of the stage to shake hands with fans and egg them on to sing along to the songs. Some women threw panties on stage at him (hopefully not the ones they wore there…because he sniffed a pair!) And when he asked if he could be our “baby daddy” we all melted! He gave me a tingly feeling through his cover of “bad habit” as he did through all of the songs.

All in all it was a great show and worth every penny I spent on my $150 ticket. The two have re-inforced the reason why I am a fan of both and I will definitely support them in any other shows they do in NYC. I am a Maxwell, Jill Scott and Neo-Soul fan for life!

Hey Kym…no Ur def not the only one that missed the “Y” layout!

Although I never had floor seats @ those shows U still felt like He was so close even from the 1st row in the lower level (especially when He “popped up” on Ur end)!! My thought is that He switched it up in order to protect Himself! What I saw from the shows that I attended def got out of control!! Some Ladies were respectable but others went for “the goods” and even tried to pull Him off the stage! At one show by the encore they had joined Him on stage and yes since they were up there He welcomed them but U def saw His initial look of “WTH”!! lol

I know just the sight of Him makes most of Us lose control ;-) but some def LOST it and I guess didn’t care whether they were n violation or not! Kym thx for sharing Ur review and I so wish I coulda been n NY especially to have heard “Lady of My Life”!! Lucky U even going again tonite!! Enjoy!!

I agree 100% with the first reviewer.

Jill definitely did her thing! I was alittle embarrassed that I only recognized 2 of the songs and didn’t know the words enough to sing along, but I loved everything she did. That woman can definitely “sang” and she connected with the audience so well. I will definitely buy her new cd and I would definitely see her again. :)

Now on to Max. He looked and sang VERY well. He even ripped his pants. ;) He was not as intimate with the audience as in past shows which was disappointing to me because I had FINALLY made it to the stage. He may have felt overwhelmed performing at the Garden, who knows. He also was not as freaky as he usually is but that may have been because there was a very young girl in the front (deep sigh) He didn’t reach out to the folks at the stage (like me!!!) but he did acknowlege me during Help Somebody so I will just roll with that. :) Oh, to be the woman that got a nice long hug from him. I’m sure she’s still on cloud nine. I will have to make sure that is me next time. :)

All in all it was a great show and a much better experience than I had in Phoenix.

@ Robyn- I saw on you tube a show he did @ The Hollywood Bowl and he was walking down one side of the Y stage and a lady just reached out and grabbed him right in the jewels! But he played it off so smooth. He smacked her hand back so fast it almost looked like a dance move! It was too funny! Oh the things Maxwell fanatics will do just to get a piece of him!

I’ve never experienced Jill Scott in person, and I must say I was thoroughly impressed by her range and depth of voice. Now to my love, Maxwell, whom I’ve seen several times and it hurts me to even say this, but I was a little disappointed, I felt the band was a little off, he had to “speak” to the bass player twice, and also felt he had too much “asked” audience participation. We love you Maxwell, there is nothing you have to do except sing, you have a beautiful voice, your showmanship and stage presence is all we need. Stick to your game plan, you don’t need anything else. At one point in the show, you said “if there’s something you don’t like, just let me know”, there’s nothing, just keep doing your thing, singing and serenading us. Love you forever!

@ROBYN/DEE PAYNE – I saw some of the videos from earlier concerts as well. Some of the women were being so disrespectful and raunchy towards Maxwell. I can understand women becoming overly excited but invading Maxwell’s private space for self-gratification is degrading. It really shows lack of respect for Maxwell. So, I’m all for a secure stage set-up if it keeps some of his more ‘exuberant’ fans respectful.

Robyn June 27th, 2010 at 11:53 pm

Dee Payne…I saw that vid too but til U brought it to my attention I thought He tripped! lol That was too crazy n disrespectful but Ur right He was cool abt it!!

Wallflower…I so agree w/U!!

i June 28th, 2010 at 12:05 pm

Hey, Whats The Name Of That Video ? I Can’t Find It .

Ms Deb June 28th, 2010 at 12:29 pm

There’s always a few who cross the line and ruins things for everyone else. It happened on his myspace page, his twitter, and now his stage setup. smh. I pray it doesn’t get to the point where he’s afraid to share any little bit of himself because I really enjoy what he does allow us to see and experience.

DannieMarie June 28th, 2010 at 6:55 pm

@ Dee Payne I watched the YouTube after reading your post and I couldn’t believe someone would do that… Utter shock and disbelief. I actually felt bad for Maxwell.
@Wallflower… I couldn’t agree with you more. Fans don’t seem to realize that performers are people too, not just things that entertain, and one person could mess it up for all of us. Yes we all love Maxwell and would love to get close enough to touch him but have some respect for the man and yourself. Fortunately that one incident hasn’t stopped him from performing!

Dee Payne June 28th, 2010 at 9:18 pm

@ Robyn- It did look like he tripped. I had to watch it over a couple of times to see what actually happened!

Dee Payne June 28th, 2010 at 9:46 pm

Ladies please check out this video on youtube of Maxwell. The tag is Maxwell BLACKsummers’night Tour Chicago 10-08-09. It will definitely get your juices flowing! I have watched it about 20 times…..in one day! Njoy!

Kym June 28th, 2010 at 11:55 pm

Dee Payne after being closer for the second New York Show, I really do understand about his safety. It’s like he goes to touch your hand and fifty women try to pull him off the stage. I was so mesmerized myself I was scared to get closer :)
I agree Ms. Deb there is always a few who ruin things for others. I’m just glad this hasn’t discouraged him from performing for us.

Robyn June 29th, 2010 at 3:59 pm

DEE PAYNE!! LOL look what U have started…LOL!! I’ve been watchin video clips for like an hour now and it all started w/Ur post! I started with Ur video then watched “The Dance” onto Him “blushing” and now I’ve seen everything from His “Sexy Talk” “Stage Crashers” to interviews!
