It was just last night in New York when a few fans got their wishes fulfilled for an intimate concert featuring Maxwell and his world renowned band members. Janell Snowden, from VH1 News, interviewed with Maxwell shortly before the taping of Storytellers began.  “…it’s a must see!,” Snowden tweeted. She also went on to tweet, Maxwell wants us to really FEEL the music. During “Drown Deep” (Embrya), he had a guy blowing bubbles into a vase w/ a mic. Sounds like it was a night to remember. Make sure you tune in to VH1, JUNE 17, 2011 at 11pm (Eastern) for the airing of MAXWELL – VH1 STORYTELLERS.

November 18, 2010, Billboard.com released their listing of the top 50 R&B/Hip-Hop Artists of the last 25 Years and Maxwell made the list. Check out the information below to see where Maxwell was placed. According to Billboard, the tally was based on actual performance on the weekly Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts from Jan. 5, 1985, issue to the charts dated Nov. 6, 2010.

Some words of wisdom were spoken to me by the people who care about the well-being of this brand, so I must appeal to you all.

The concert review from Sun Media written by Jane Stevenson (September 25, 2009) puts a question into my mind. What does Maxwell do to protect his voice against strain?

After searching my memory, I do not believe there are any articles or interviews out there giving Maxwell’s routine to throat protection. As we all know, protecting the voice (vocal chords) is very important to singers. I used to sing in chorus/choir from elementary school to high school and I remember some of the tips we were given and I have collected my own over the years, even though I do not sing anymore.

1. Place yourself and a humidifier in the same room, cover your neck (scarf or towel) and for 30 minutes or so, breath in/out the air while relaxing. (NOTE: Keep the humidifier cleaned as instructed, and often).
2. Do drink fluids (water), it washes away the mucous that can build up in your throat.
3. Do honey (it helps to coat and protect the throat).
4. Exercise your voice regularly with warm-ups (ascending and descending). If standing, keep your back straight. If sitting, sit on the edge of the chair, back straight. Helps with singing through your diaphragm.
5. Before you sing or exercise your voice, eat. A nurtured stomach, gives energy.
6. No dairy.
7. No smoking (1st hand or 2nd hand).
8. No drinking (distilled spirits, wine, etc).
9. Get adequate rest.
10. For professional singers, have your Throat Specialist’s number on speed dial.

September 17, 2009, some of you may be aware that MAXWELL was in attendance at the U2 concert in Toronto, ON at the Roger Centre (he tweeted about it). Yesterday, I was sent the audio from the U2 concert in Toronto where Bono referenced MAXWELL’s Pretty Wings the song was “One”. Through a quick search on youtube the video was found. MAXWELL also tweeted “…on a high DESMOND TUTU rules.” When you watch the video, you will see why. Pay close attention to 5:29 – 5:34 to 5:54

A BONO-FIDE MIXUP

It wasn’t all work and no play for Maxwell while he rehearsed in Toronto for the past two weeks for his first-ever arena tour, which kicks off at the Air Canada Centre tonight.

The neo-soul singer squeezed in U2′s second show at the Toronto’s Rogers Centre last Thursday night and even got to meet frontman Bono before he took the stage. “I got the call that he wanted to meet me. We had already met. We met in New York City one time. He thought one of my cars was his. He was trying to get into my car. I had a car, a Mercedes, outside, and he thought it was his car. It was the funniest thing because he remembered. He was like, ‘Yeah, I remember you. I was trying to get into your car.’ I was going to give him the car. Take the car!”

Both men were emerging from the now defunct Hit Factory in New York City when the car mixup occurred. “He’s amazing,” said Maxwell of their meeting again last Thursday in Toronto. “And he came out singing Pretty Wings (Maxwell’s new single) when we met backstage before the show. Then he went on and before One, he mentioned the song, and myself, but I wasn’t there to hear it unfortunately because I was heading downstairs in an elevator trying to get closer to that stage that had just expanded.”
